Recently, when out shopping, one of our members, Ryan, found himself at the scene of a robbery. Thankfully, he was not the victim.

His training at KB Self Defence and subsequent quick-thinking, meant that he was in a position to swiftly assist the woman who had sadly been subjected to the theft.

Ryan sent an email about the unfortunate situation to KB Self Defence Chief Instructor, Kelly Bunyan:

'I was really pleased that a lot of your teachings came to me in that moment, and I was able to explain the circumstances to the police, make sure she was okay and console her that it was only a phone that she lost and the fact that she came out of it unharmed was the priority.   

After a year of lockdown, it's a reminder of the reality of living in London, and that after being inside for so long a lot of us have lost our sense of awareness in public spaces. It's unfortunate that there will always be people who take advantage of this, which makes us being prepared even more important now that life is slowly getting back to normal.'

Ryan repeats Kelly's teachings above, when writing that belongings are replaceable, but your life and the life of your loved ones is priceless. 

Unfortunately, it is a fact that predators are looking for easy prey.  We teach at KB Self Defence that it is important to be alert and aware of your surroundings. Blocking out the environment around you by listening to music through headphones is dangerous. The person who is present, showing confidence (walking tall) is less likely to be a target.
