SOON-TO-BE BLACK BELTS

SOON-TO-BE BLACK BELTS

01/05/2021

Our next grading is just 6 weeks away. That might sound like a while, but for the two KB members hoping to take the coveted Black Belt, it is imminent!

We all have different reasons for starting martial arts. It is undeniable, however, that grading is one of the most exhilarating experiences of our individual journeys.

While it is not compulsory, most of our members decide to grade. It is a great way to measure progress, not to mention that it generates a wonderful sense of pride and achievement.

Ryan and Marianne have certainly committed to the grading process; they are taking their Black Belts at the next grading in June. It is interesting to wonder what motivates them to commit to such a coveted goal:

"The journey to black belt in kickboxing at KB is making me fitter, faster, stronger, more focused and more confident than I have ever been.

It's hard work, but that's what makes it an amazing challenge. If I am awarded the belt it will be something I am proud of for the rest of my life!" says Marianne.

Ryan adds, "One of the reasons I want to become a KB black belt is to show what training with Kelly in the school has allowed me to achieve, and to show the full breadth of the techniques I’ve learnt. Another reason I want a KB black belt is to join the KB black belt team. Since I’ve started at the school, they’ve been role models in terms of dedication, skill and caring for the newer students. Joining the ranks and carrying on their legacy would be an absolute privilege."

Chief Instructor, Kelly Bunyan, has awarded 30+ black standard belts and sashes since she started teaching. Kelly says, "I am with my students every step of the way, from correcting technique, to coaching fighting tactics, to helping harness the mental strength required to reach the top level of performance. I love providing such a goal-setting environment. It is so satisfying to watch people grow under my tutelage. Good luck this time round to Ryan and Marianne!"

Imagine how satisfying it is to pass the Black Belt - the run up to the coveted level is so exciting. The joy of that wonderful moment, the end of the black belt grading, is shared with the whole school - eternally etched in the memories of all who were present. Those who have been through it will tell you that those final moments are euphoric, with very few other life experiences coming close to how high the feeling is. A uniquely special experience.

Could achieving a Black Belt be one of your goals, too? Perhaps you will not know until you get started. Kickboxing in London could be your new thing!
