Martial arts training changes your life on a spiritual level. It makes you more disciplined for sure, but humility comes from our hearts; humility that inspires loyalty and passion for nurturing the next generation.
You will often see the higher grades (members who have been with us for some time, having achieved several belts), assisting an instructor at our London Kickboxing class. This is to ensure that everyone has the best experience and is well looked after.
The assistants are trained and hand-picked by Kelly KB herself and they frequently comment on what a rewarding experience it is to be a part of a beginner’s journey in the martial arts.
Jess Baker, who has assisted in our martial arts school for over a decade, told us why:

“Assisting in the Kickboxing beginner classes is one of the most rewarding things about being in our Kickboxing school. I love my own training, of course, but there really is something extra that you feel when you work with the kickboxing beginners. Seeing people enter the room perhaps a bit nervous, or unfit, or unsure if they can learn a martial art… helping them, encouraging them, and then watching them flourish

and progress. It’s so rewarding! Being even a small part of other students’ journeys is a real honour and very much in line with the school’s ethos of generosity of spirit. KB has given me so much, so I really love being able to give back in this way.”

‘Giving something back’ is exactly right; Chief Instructor, Kelly (KB), imparts her knowledge of the martial arts to her students and, led by her example, KB students help to humbly nurture the new generation of students at their first Kickboxing classes.

All higher grades have mentioned at one point or another that they remember what it was like to enter the London kickboxing dojo for the first time and be welcomed by a smiling team, who genuinely cared about their well-being and progress from the very first moment. It surely makes a difference in the experience.

Gracie Laurence, who has recently taken her 2nd belt in Kickboxing, and is currently preparing for her first Kung Fu grading, shares her thoughts:

“Thank you for reminding us about the mentality of KB - I can definitely see in the higher grades that actually the further up you go the less confrontational and more humble you become. I can see that inner confidence and calm in those amazing higher grades, and it is a great marker for me to aspire to.”

What is wonderful about the “KB mentality,” is that it’s not forced or faked; it is something that comes naturally with time to our members.

Would you like to feel cared for from the get-go, and be confident that you will be supported every step of the way to achieve your goals? e.g. Do you want to learn self-defence, learn how to protect yourself, get fit etc.? If so ...

SPARRING THRILL

Martial arts training has many different aspects, and different methods of delivering the traditional teachings that are passed down from master to student. Of these aspects, one of the most popular amongst KB members is sparring, which is fighting in a controlled manner. Sparring entails kicking, punching and blocking work with a partner, whilst wearing protective equipment.

NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF

Martial arts training requires focus, resilience, discipline and patience. Progression takes time, and can at times be challenging. In a world where negative thoughts may be the norm, where it may be easier to give up than persevere, KB Fitness’ martial arts classes London teach KB members to keep fighting and that, with practise, there is nothing they can’t master.
