SOCIAL ANXIETY

SOCIAL ANXIETY

23/06/2023

In the UK, over 8 million people will be living with an anxiety disorder at any one time (Mind Health UK). While not all who suffer from an anxiety disorder will experience the same symptoms, there are strategies to cope with anxiety and its impact. Some people have found exercise, within a supportive group environment, can play a big part in helping them to cope with anxiety and its effects.

“I found KB Fitness online and booked a class. I asked a friend to come with me so that it wouldn’t be so overwhelming. I had always wanted to learn martial arts, but I just couldn’t make myself face that social situation. On my first class, everyone was so welcoming and lovely that after a few sessions, I stopped dreading going on my own and started to make new friends. I am so glad I decided to face my fears and try. I hope more and more people realise how beneficial KB’s kickboxing classes can be,” said Alex.

“For me, because of my anxiety, my confidence was really low, and I didn’t think I could be good at anything. It took me some time after I started kickboxing training to overcome those thoughts and realise that I was actually learning martial arts and achieving goals in the dojo. Once I realised that I could be good at Kickboxing, my confidence soared and spread through other areas of my life,” said Mark.

Training martial arts at KB Fitness in Central London will help you build your confidence, improve your mental health and ensure you feel cared for. Focusing on learning a new art form in our kickboxing classes in London, and enjoying your progress, will help to quieten inner ‘noise’ and give you a sense of calm.

Watch this video, where Kelly FN, KB Kickboxing Black Belt and KB Kung Fu Purple Sash, talks about how training in KB’s London kickboxing classes has helped her cope with her anxiety.

“Anxiety is an ongoing battle. It can be a lonely battle, too. The world can get too noisy and too bright sometimes. I know this won’t make sense to everyone, but that’s what it’s like for me; overwhelming. Training in the martial arts has helped me focus and quieten the noises inside my head. It brings me peace, a sense of belonging and achievement. It has made me feel stronger and taught me invaluable lessons,” said Kelly FN.

The nurturing space, the kindness of your training peers, and the individual care and interest of the teaching team mean that you have a safe haven within which you can heal.

The result is life-changing, as your increased confidence will benefit your life in and outside the dojo. You will know that with KB Fitness’ instructors’ support, and your determination, there is nothing you can’t achieve.

Do you find it difficult to step into the unknown? Is the world overwhelming and scary? Would you like to overcome your anxiety and feel like you belong?

Hopefully we've given you a great suggestion as to how to overcome these fears, and turn the idea of martial arts into reality. Get in touch, ask as many questions as you like and let us guide you on your journey as a martial artist.
