KB TOURNAMENTS

13/09/2022

“Touch gloves. Fight!,” says Chief Instructor and Lead Referee Kelly KB at the start of each tournament match. If you are curious about what a Kickboxing tournament looks like, KB Fitness’ London Kickboxing classes are a great place to experience it.

I’m sure you must have done a thorough search on Kickboxing classes near me and know that KB is not the only school that offers in-house competitions. So, what makes KB Fitness’ London Kickboxing classes a great choice?

The fighting style at KB is semi-contact, which means that the lessons focus on speed and cleanliness of technique, rather than force.

No one is trying to knock anyone out, or hit forcefully. On the contrary, it is as safe as a contact sport can be and the camaraderie found at KB’s tournaments, gradings and classes alike is unparalleled. KB members frequently hug after their match, in a perfect display of the KB ethos: at KB, we celebrate one another’s achievements.

While competing is not compulsory unless KB members decide to start their Kickboxing Grading journey, all members who participate love it and recommend it.

“I love tournaments and it’s always great to see so many new students getting involved. I find tournaments really bring everything together for me and move me outside my comfort zone so I learn more. They are such a key part of the KB ‘DNA’,” says Chris Taylor, who has been training at the school for 8 years.

“Woah! Shot!,” exclaims Chief Instructor Kelly KB at a particularly impressive score during the Kickboxing tournament.

After 23 years of running London Kickboxing classes, Kelly is still excited to see her students showing what they have learnt from her lesson plans in KB’s in-house Kickboxing competitions. Whether they are seasoned fighters, or trying it for the first time, it is inspiring to watch.

“Being in my first tournament was exhilarating. When Kelly yelled, “fight” my adrenaline surged and I was having tonnes of fun putting the techniques I had learned into practice. I learned so much from having rounds with Nick and Victor. The encouragement and support for me making this step was incredible and I can’t wait until the next one,” said Kim after her first tournament

Kim describes the feeling and the support from the members perfectly. In the end, this is what it is about: having fun, supporting one another and progressing in their martial arts journey.

If reading about Chris’ and Kim’s experience intrigued you, why not come for a London Kickboxing class at KB Fitness and see for yourself why our members love it, and maybe you will find that you love it too.
