GRADING TRAINING PLANS

GRADING TRAINING PLANS

15/03/2023

How does the grading system work? How much do I have to train to get a belt? How committed do I have to be? How fit do I have to be?

These are common questions from beginners at KB Fitness’ Kickboxing classes. The order of Kickboxing Belts is as follows: Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, Brown, Black. The intensity of training will naturally increase the further on a student is in this spectrum, since the level of fitness and technique expected of them increases at each level.

In the past, KB members training for their Blue Belt would train once a week only. Combined with extra weekend training, that can be enough, but it’s not the ideal level of commitment - nor does it easily build the required stamina to deliver on grading day.

Now, KB Fitness members start their martial arts journey by having unlimited Kickboxing and Self Defence classes included in their memberships, which makes it possible for them to fully dedicate themselves to the challenge and increase their fitness to higher levels.

Another new aspect of grading at Blue Belt level is that 3 months prior to grading, the hopefuls are invited to join Chief Instructor Kelly KB’s classes. In the past, only graders going from Green to Orange Belt were invited, but now they have that opportunity much sooner.

The earlier KB Kickboxing graders get used to training in multiple Kickboxing classes a week, to enhance their progress and their fitness.

Kelly asks the graders to send her their training plans a few months before grading, in order to establish if they can commit the training hours – inside and outside of the dojo - required to achieve their goal. In the past, graders would send simple Kickboxing training plans saying that they intended to train once a week at their usual London Kickboxing class and another hour or two at home/at the gym. However, now the plans are getting more and more elaborate and all-encompassing.

Kelly has even received detailed spreadsheets with calendars, vitamin intake, gym exercises, and the Kickboxing drills to be practiced each week.

“It’s a great thing to have a training plan and being made accountable to it. It’s fun and satisfying to know that I am on the right track and that when the time comes to show off my skills, I won’t just pass, I will fly!” said Tash.

“This kind of commitment from my students is what keeps me motivated and passionate about passing my knowledge on to the next generation,” says Kelly. “I want to teach those who really tune in to what they’re learning, and want to be the best martial artist they can be, right now. You can be a beginner, and train like a Black Belt. All it takes is the willingness to respond to your instructor, and to train at your top level – whatever that level is right now. I love seeing that mindset in my students and I am excited to guide them on their grading journey.”

The answers to the questions posed at the beginning of this article could be, “Why not train as much as you can? Why not be as committed as you can be? Why not improve your fitness as much as you can?” KB’s Unlimited Kickboxing classes allow for that, making it possible for anyone who wants to, to soar.

Will you be one of the future graders sending Kelly your Kickboxing training plan? Why not take the first step and book your first London Kickboxing class?
